About 'Big Business' chat show with CHIGO

The  1st Set of Big Business.

The Host of Big Business...awaiting unveiling...Lol
'Big Business' is another brain child of mine.... an informal  business chat show which is targeted at SME Owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The previews you will be seeing on the net are old episodes from 2011 which I have been sitting on for so many reasons great and small, but I have decided its time to put them out there anyway.

Twas a first trial, amateur and on a very tight budget. I got a lot of help from my friends, my family and support from my local church at the time. Some agreed to help for who I was to them and some helped because I was a member of the church but I appreciate them all very much. God bless them abundantly especially the DOP who helped me get some discount on cameras and crew.

Crew strength was about 15, I interviewed 13 business owners and we did it all in 5 days (Mon- Fri).

A good friend sacrificed her living room for me to use as my set....while PDoc.,my parents and my brother also helped me with funds. God bless them all abundantly, replenish their pockets and send them helpers in their time of need. I do not take their help for granted, even though we are connected by blood, water and rings...Lol.

I have grown since then, reviewed with some world class production experts, taken some classes in production, hosting, editing etc. It can only get better. So as I have decided to put it out there...let me see what God will do next ...

The God that has given me 2 fully sponsored radio shows will do something good with this one as well in Jesus name. AMEN!

Extraordinary Nigerian Woman...Atiti Sosimi the Mumpreneur!

Ever heard of "The Big Secret Company"?

They are the producers of two main resources: The Big Secret - a short story and "Shh-or-tell it”; a family, fun and educational board game . Both media deliver a playful learning approach to developing decision-making skills and were designed for students at school, youth groups and teams at work and families at family events.

They offer participants a safe and non-judgmental space to test and practice existing decision-making skills and knowledge with emphasis on dealing with dilemmas that pose moral, ethical, social and environmental challenges.

The brain behind these fantastic innovation is 40 something year old Atiti Sosimi; fondly called A.t.i. or Ah-tt by her freinds.

She refers to herself as a 'Mumpreneur', i.e. A mum plus an entrepreneur. Her career has taken her through several roles within the education sector as educator/teacher/trainer/lecturer and student. She worked as a part time University lecturer for the last 5 years and began to study part time for a Masters in Learning and teaching for higher education with emphasis on applying learning technologies hence the application by producing her own game/learning aid on decision making skills.

The 'Mumpreneur' herself ; Atiti Sosimi

Hear her ...
"My knowledge, skills and experience cascade into several different industries and sectors for instance I am a trained music manager, published author, inspirational speaker, business and personal mentor, board game inventor, animation creator and a creative entrepreneur".

Wow!... And so she has packaged all these skills and expresses them in the following ways as;
  • Founder/CEO of The Big Secret Company; a social enterprise focusing on learning and practising decision making skills through gameplay.
  • Designer/Brand Owner of Eyato LONDON the high end couture handmade in London label for women. www.eyato.com
  • Tea Party Hostess; a monthly networking event called ‘Tea with Atiti’ www.teawithatiti.com
She says.... "when I was much much younger, I wanted to be my own boss, be brilliant and successful, be very rich and have a red sports car! Initially an MG until the day I saw a Ferrari. To an extent I would say I have achieved several aspects of this dream I had as a child, others have become less important as they require a degree of selfishness which I’m not prepared to exercise. Some things become less important as one matures. I got to a point growing up where all I wanted to do was express myself in a way that makes a positive impact of everyone around me. What I do highlights the value of combining the informal learning and formal learning where life and everyone around you is your parent, teacher, keeper and friend!"

A creation from her Eyato collection...
Handmade in London!

Her entrepreneurial wisdom nugget for the rest of us....
"In 2006 I took up business premises and it was a crucial part of the plan to grow my business, however I was unprepared for the extent of responsibility that came with it and as attractive as it seemed the financial demands were almost crippling and I found myself falling into hard times, accruing debts and things I’d never had before. I was anxious about my business reputation and very concerned about whether I would ever be able to get on top of things again. By nature I’m not a quitter so I knew I needed to re-evaluate my position.

One of the first things I realised I needed to do was re-negotiate everything. I set about presenting my position with honesty and offering payment plans which I felt were realistic to my situation. For the majority of creditors/stakeholders they were obliging and I was able to recover, breathe and focus on bringing in business instead of tying myself up in knots about debt.
The less I worried the easier it was for me to focus on business and this is how I operate now. I evaluate, plan, present and negotiate my way through challenges."

She also actively participates as a runner in the UK 10k’s ½ marathons; a marathon to fundraise. We celebrate you maam... well done and please keep running; with the flag flying high!

Quote of the day

Quite a dramatic, emotional, inspiring ceremony.

Dear Government people, a lot of work goes into becoming a doctor and then consultant...please appreciate, celebrate and help them. Thank you.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan was at the event he was given an honorary fellowship for all the good work he is doing with health and education in Delta state. His citation and  acknowledgement speech were equally inspiring. Delta state is a good state to come from oh, I have been watching them for a while....If only Abia state can do a quarter of what Delta and Lagos state are doing...*sigh*

I have started watching Lekki Wives ooooo and I am HOOKED!

Oh my God!! I finally got to buy and watch Lekki Wives...Oh my...never judge a book by its cover...in this case by its preview.

Nooo the preview does not do justice to this series at all...it is FANTASTIC!!!

Even PDoc. that was yabbing me when I was buying it later asked me why DSTV isn't showing it. It is better than many things we watch on the 4 Africa Magic stations put together.

Someone pinged me to watch it ..she said there was an actress in it (the lady with dreads) that looks like me and reminds her of me...then another day a friend of mine put up as her status .."Lekki Wives!! I never baff since morning ooooo" (or something like that), then I went with PDoc. to buy movies (He doesn't lie, doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't chase women but I must say his "vice" apart from buying books is buying movies...its an OK Vice until you are moving house and you discover you have to move about 500 movies. Its better than moving 500 children from other women sha so I will carry my cross like that abeg)

Back to Lekki Wives...at the video stall. I noticed 2 guys talking about it again "mehnnn this Lekki wives them say e sweet"... I quickly rushed it.

Fast forward to my house... hours later.... Lekki wives is sweet, fresh, funny and on point. The cast (especially the lead actresses) are just superb. They can only get better like fine wine. I daresay they are far far far far better than a lot of actresses we celebrate today. (Just like my compering is far better than some people y'all celebrate today but that's story for another day).

Blessing Effiom Egbe..writer and producer..Lekki Wives
Babes you try! Well done

Kudos to whoever did the casting, then the scripting (you could tell there was a script!...which is a good thing in a Nigerian production), then directing, production... EVERYTHING!!!

Of course I cant forget my girl AMAIKAH whose songs were used as official soundtrack. Well done girl. the songs fit like a glove.

..Noo I doff my hat, pull my weave and shave my hair for the writer and producer of Lekki Wives; Nollywood Actress and producer of "Two brides and a baby" ; Blessing Effiom Egbe. Babes you are too much...Well done. This is new, this is fresh, this is good, this is commendable. I have one friend sef who doesn't ever see anything good in Nigerian entertainment but even she confesses that Lekki Wives is good. Blessing please when is season 3 coming out?

I haven't finished watching oh but so far my best part was when Uju asked Lovette what she did for a living to afford the kind of lifestyle she had and she responded..."I live in Lekki and I pray!" Then Amaikah's song entered..."Storryyyyyyy!!!" ROTFL ..I can't get that part out of my head. I also like the Chief's wife,  the 'Spiro' sister's husband (who reminds me of R-Kelly somehow) and  in fact everything and everyone generally.

Blessing you tried biko, well done, don't be discouraged, forge ahead.

No drop standard for all the tea in China. FLY!!!

My SHOPRITE Encounter.... Pls share your thoughts

Hailed a cab earlier today at Shoprite gate within the premises.

Got into the cab, then cab driver went to  make a U-turn.

On getting back to the gate area, a plain clothes police officer stopped the cab guy and asked him to park.

Your typical "you are in trouble" scene.
His crime was that he picked me inside Shoprite premises and blocked the road while at it.

It was getting late, like 7'ish'. The fine was 5k but of course the endless begging began. I stayed with him to beg and yes I was tempted to flee and hail another cab outside the premises of course (now wiser)...in fact I eventually did because I felt maybe they would let him go if they saw he lost his customer....(the policeman went to pray)..... but then he ran after me and called me to please stay with him...and then I came back despite the ticking clock and darkening sky.

Finally they showed him mercy, didn't collect a dime from him. He had asked me to borrow him 1k out of the future cab fare to use to beg the police man. (Come to think of it, it is possible he had 1k but wanted me to suffer with him). Anyway I gave him.

When we got back into the car, he told me after much thinking (cos it came out more like a confession) that the policeman did not collect the 1k from him anymore, so he let him go for free. I rejoiced with him and told him to show mercy to others in future as he had been shown.

This is the short version of the story but I learnt something about myself today....I can be nice, kind hearted and benevolent.

A 100 cabs around and I chose to wait for this guy. Did I really have to? What would you have done if you were in my shoes?

Remember I stopped him inside Shoprite and I didn't know that was a "crime". This is different from probably you were in a taxi and the driver was parked for not having his license or complete documents....which is also different from you are in a hurry to the interview of a lifetime and the cab had a flat tyre.

DO share...I would like to know if I was too benevolent, tolerant or gullible or "mumu" in this situation. I really want to know what other people would have done in my shoes.

In all I made up my mind to run my vision and today the business is doing well. I praise God. I draw my strength from the knowledge of the Word of God. 1 Cor.3:21-" All things are yours" God did not make a promise to give me all things; He already gave me all things. So I refuse to settle for less."
